Our Sustainable Focus

At Serenade Foods, makers of Sandra's chicken, our sustainability efforts focus on identifying long term sustainability projects that help us work toward our goal of becoming a zero landfill operation. In addition, we work to improve our supply chain sustainability by developing relationships with more than a dozen vendors and service providers to expand our programs and build a broader sustainable culture within our operations.

We believe sustainability requires programs and systems that are ethically grounded, scientifically verified and economically viable. When these three elements operate in balance, we have systems that can be executed and programs that build consumer trust and confidence in Sandra's chicken products.

Sustainabilty Highlights

Recycle & Reuse
A primary goal of our sustainable focus is to ensure that we recycle what we cannot reuse. To achieve our goal of continuous improvement in this area, we have established robust relationships with our recycling partners. With their help, our production campus increased our recycling efforts 106% over the last year.

In addition, we encourage consumers to upcycle and reuse our product packaging to reduce waste.

• The first full year of working with Pratt Enterprises, we purchased corrugated boxes and then reloaded delivery trucks to send recyclable materials back to Pratt. The net result of this partnership helped us recycle more than 257 tons of cardboard, plastics and papers from our production campus.

• We worked with Kamps, our pallet supplier, to purchase more than 30,000 used pallets and recycle another 13,000 pallets. As a result, we helped save 2,520 trees and diverted 887 tons of waste from landfills.

Reduce Energy Consumption
• By investing in new energy-efficient LED lighting systems in multiple facilities, we are significantly reducing our electricity needs related to lighting.

• To reduce fuel use while growing our operation, our company has made an investment in replacing a portion of our fleet for an increase in fuel efficiency of 43%. We also realized a 6% reduction in our propane use.

In the Community
Each year, our company generously supports non-profit organizations in the communities where our employees live, work and raise their families. Our giving is focused on programs that address hunger relief, community services, education and youth development, culinary arts and agricultural education and leadership. We support these focus areas through company contributions, product donations and employee volunteer efforts that benefitted nearly 100 different programs.

Annual Audits
Since 2012, our company has participated in audits against the British Retail Consortium (BRC) Global Standard for Food Safety to earn our Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) certification. We are proud to report that our operation has earned AA ratings through the annual audits.
